We serve baked breads, a variety of jams, fresh fruit, cheese board, a variety of cereals and a cooked breakfast of your choice, traditionally South African with yoghurt, fresh fruit juice, tea and coffee.

But what will remain with you for a long time after visiting Oakdene is the warmth and hospitality of your host.

Oakdene History

In 1847 the small Klein Karoo town known as 'Veldskoen' was renamed Oudtshoorn.  Six years later, Oakdene was built on the main road by Mr. J.H. Mulder, who later also built Oudtshoorn's magnificent sandstone Moederkerk and the Pastorie.  In Oakdene, Mulder's style blended typical Cape vernacular with elements of traditional Victorian and Klein Karoo architecture.

The original Victorian trelliswork which still stands perfectly intact today, was added around the turn of the Century. The 'lei-watersloot' running in front of the house is the last remaining section of the original lei which supplied water to the Oudtshoorn of old. In order to preserve the lei, the historic facade and the oak trees in front of Oakdene, the building was declared a National Monument in 1988. Oakdene is one of the oldest & finest examples of architecture from the early days of Oudtshoorn.

About Us

Wildehondekloof was bought in 1996 as a barren farm without any fencing, roads or infrastructure. The construction of the cold room facility and managers quarters commenced in 2002 and simultaneously the idea of constructing the lodge utilizing the existing building was born. During construction of the lodge it became clear that the current building would not suffice and the planning of the current Wildehondekloof Lodge started, which resulted in the magnificent five en suite air-conditioned roomed lodge. The lodge became a landmark with hunters and nature lovers, both from South Africa and abroad.

In 2005, a breeding herd of seven Eland were purchased, as the first introduced animals delivered to Wildehondekloof. The introduced Eland complimented the existing animals, consisting of Common Rheedbuck, Mountain Rheedbuck, Vaalribbok and Klipspringer. Since then more Eland, Kudu, Gemsbuck, Red Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Black Wildebeest , Nyala, Burchell's Zebra, Blesbuck, Impala and Springbuck have been introduced.

Despite Wildehondekloof's success as a hunting destination, the owner has always had a vision to share the Wildehondekloof Private Game Reserve owned and utilized by only a few privileged people.

Redstone Hills guest farm near Calitzdorp is nestled within what must be one of the most spectacular geological landscapes in the whole South Africa. The striking reddish-hued koppies which surrounds the farm are constructed from iron-rich conglomerates which were deposited by turbulent rivers in the Cretaceous Period, some 130 millions years ago. In a sense these blood-red rocks reflect the painful and energetic birth of the new African continent. Come experience genuine Karoo hospitality, spectacular view and breathtaking tranquility at our guest farm..
